Scleral lens emergency card
Many emergency and urgent care staff have never seen a scleral lens. Fill in this card and keep it in your wallet, next to your insurance card. If you can't get a lens out, or you can't speak for yourself, it tells staff what you're wearing, who fits it, and how to remove it.
- Print at 100% (actual size), cut along the outer line, and fold in half so the front and back face out.
- Write in pen, and keep a second copy with your travel kit.
- Pair it with your phone’s medical ID, noting that you wear scleral lenses.
For staff: the full guide is at removing a scleral lens: a guide for emergency and urgent care.

To remove a scleral lens
- Ask me to do it if I can. I may carry a plunger.
- Add preservative-free drops or sterile saline; wait a minute.
- Wet a small removal plunger. Press it on the lower third of the lens, near the edge. Never the center.
- Pull outward and tilt up so the lower edge lifts.
- Won’t release? Don’t force it. Call my fitter or on-call eye care.
