Two kinds of pages
Sourced pages (conditions, research summaries, insurance, comparisons and most guides) state medical facts and statistics only when we've read them at the source: a published study, an FDA page, a drug label or a maker's instructions. Each fact carries a numbered citation, and the full reference list is at the bottom of the page. If a number can't be sourced, it's cut.
Community-informed pages (many question pages and the solutions masterclass) start from the questions scleral lens wearers ask again and again and what they report from daily life. These pages say so, carry a "Last reviewed" date, and still state no statistics without a source. Product facts on them come from the makers' own instructions.
What patients share stays private
Where we learn from patient support communities, we paraphrase and aggregate. We never quote, name or identify anyone, and we don't publish members' photos or stories.
Safety comes first
- Instructional pages defer to the reader's own fitter and include a "remove the lens and call today" list of warning signs.
- We don't give dosing, and we don't recommend off-label practices. When wearers commonly do something off-label, we say plainly that it's off-label and a decision for their fitter.
- We name habits we don't recommend, even when they're common.
Balance
We describe where scleral lenses fall short and name the alternatives. We don't call any lens, brand or practice "best". Brands are named as examples of what people use, not endorsements.
Who writes and reviews
Pages are researched and written by the Scleral Lens Team. Answers on Ask an expert are written by licensed optometrists. Pages are reviewed when sources change, and insurance and cost pages are re-checked regularly because those rules change most often.
Practice listings
The site is operated by the owners of Michigan Contact Lens. If we list practices, every practice, including that one, must meet the same published criteria, listings will show when they were last verified, and any financial relationship will be disclosed on the listing before it goes live.
